Maruti Suzuki enjoyed another bumper sales month in April 2023, selling a total of 160,529 vehicles. Domestic passenger vehicle sales for the first month of the new financial year stood at 137,320 units.
Overall sales numbers which include commercial vehicles as well as cars shipped to other OEMs and exports rose by 6.54 per cent (9,868 units) Year-over-Year (Y-o-Y) from April 2022’s 150,661 units.
However, Month-over-Month (M-o-M) numbers were in the red compared to March 2023. Sales dropped by 9,542 units or 5.61 per cent compared to March 2023 when Maruti sold a total of 170,071 units.
In terms of domestic passenger vehicle sales, Maruti Suzuki’s Y-o-Y numbers were in the black, rising by 12.56 per cent (15,325 units) to 137,320 units. Maruti sold a total of 121,995 passenger vehicles in April 2022.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales were also in the black when it came to M-o-M metrics. Maruti’s M-o-M PV sales numbers rose by 4,557 units or 3.43 units compared to March 2023 when the firm sold 132,763 units.
Once again it was Maruti’s lineup of compact cars – Celerio, Iginis, Swift, WagonR and Baleno hatchbacks along with Dzire and Tour S sedans – that were the biggest sellers, accounting for 54 per cent of domestic sales.
Utility vehicles – Brezza, Fronx, S-Cross, Grand Vitara SUVs and Ertiga and XL6 MPVs – drove in another 27 per cent of April’s domestic PV sales. The entry-level Alto and S-Presso accounted for 10 per cent of domestic PV sales in April 2023.
The Maruti Suzuki Eeco van, which was recently updated with a more efficient engine and more tech accounted for 8 per cent of the firm’s domestic PV sales last month while the Ciaz sedan accounted for the final 1 per cent of domestic PV sales in April.
Maruti Suzuki also sold 2,199 units of the recently updated Super Carry light commercial vehicle (LCV) in April with the firm also shipping out 4,039 vehicles to other OEMs (Toyota) last month. Maruti also exported 16,971 vehicles to distant shores last month.

Maruti Suzuki’s sales numbers continue to grow in April after a record-breaking financial year 2022/23. With the new Jimny on the way and the Fronx off to a strong start, things will only look better for Maruti Suzuki this financial year.
