Suzuki Jimny is finally coming to India and we expect Maruti Suzuki to launch the SUV early next year. However, variants and prices of the model is yet to be confirmed.
Its been very long since Maruti Suzuki had a very desirable car in its product portfolio. Some of its desirable cars have been models such as Zen, Esteem, Baleno sedan, Gypsy, Grand Vitara XL7, and S-Cross 1.6. It is also worth mentioning that the RS variant of the Baleno hatchback was also a somewhat desirable model.
Speaking about desirability, Maruti Suzuki is already manufacturing the 3-door version of the Suzuki Jimny in India, it will be great if the company opts to launch the 3-door variant of the Jimny as well. Apart from that, it will also attract a lot of enthusiasts in the country.
However, we expect the 3-door version of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to have decent sales figures in the initial months due to its high desirability quotient. However, the added practicality of the 5-door version will soon triumph over the desirability of the 3-door version in India.
Speaking about the 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny, the company seems to be testing the pre-production unit as per the recent spy shots.
We expect Maruti Suzuki Jimny to be very successful if the Indo-Japanese automaker prices the model anywhere between Rs 8.5 lakhs to Rs 11 lakhs for the 3-door version and the 5-door version should be priced anywhere between Rs 9.5 lakhs to Rs 13 lakhs.
As we know, the Suzuki Jimny uses a very old-school ladder frame chassis and this gives the SUV a very rugged character. However, we expect the ride quality and handling to take a small hit as a result of this.
Moreover, thanks to the ladder frame chassis and the 4WD setup, the space on the inside might not be as good as one might expect by looking at the exterior.
Speaking about the 4WD system, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny SUV will be equipped with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP Pro all-wheel-drive system as standard. This system comes with three modes – 2H, 4H and 4L. The 2H mode sends all the power and torque from the engine to the rear wheels and this mode is used for daily driving and delivers decent fuel economy figures.
On the other hand, the 4H mode is used for slightly trickier off-road conditions that may need additional traction, whereas the 4L mode is used for extreme off-road conditions as this mode multiplies the torque sent to all wheels using a low ratio gearbox.
We expect the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to be powered by the newer K15C 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that powers the updated Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6 and Vitara Brezza in India.
This engine is capable of producing a maximum of 103 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque. Thanks to this new engine, gearbox options are likely to include the 5-speed manual transmission and a more sophisticated 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Thoughts About The Maruti Suzuki Jimny
If Maruti Suzuki launches the Jimny in India, it will be a unique offering in the market and the SUV will make a great buy for many budding adventure seekers in the country.
