India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has revealed the name of its upcoming flagship SUV – Grand Vitara. Bookings for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara are now open for Rs 11,000.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV can be booked at the carmaker’s premium Nexa dealerships or online at the Nexa Experience website. The booking amount for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is Rs 11,000 and only one colour offering – Nexa Blue – is currently available online.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be built at Toyota’s Karnataka based manufacturing facilities alongside the Urban Cross Hyryder with which it shares its platform and powertrain options. However, the Grand Vitara will feature styling more in line with Maruti Suzuki’s design language to help differentiate it from its Toyota sibling.
The Grand Vitara is expected to feature the same basic dimensions as the Toyota version of the SUV. The Toyota Urban Cross Hyryder is 4,365mm long, 1,795mm wide and 1,635mm tall. The wheelbase of the Hyryder measures 2,600mm.
Like the Hyryder, the Grand Vitara SUV from Maruti Suzuki will sport both Mild and Strong hybrid powertrains. The mild hybrid system is Maruti Suzuki’s own K15C 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with an integrated starter generator. The mild hybrid powertrain also seen on the smaller Brezza SUV is good for 101.6bhp and 135Nm of peak torque. This version will be offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission options and will come in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive guises.
The strong hybrid setup features a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine and a single electric motor that combine together to produce 113.4bhp and 141Nm of peak torque which is sent to the front wheels via an e-CVT gearbox.
The Grand Vitara is expected to come packed with features including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with a 7-inch digital driver’s cockpit, heads up display, connected car tech, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and an air purifier among others.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is expected to feature up to 6 airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), ABS with EBD, hill hold & hill descend control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), ISOFIX anchor points, and a 360 degree surround view camera.
Thoughts On Maruti Suzuki’s Upcoming Grand Vitara SUV
Maruti Suzuki’s take on Toyota’s Hyryder is set to bear a rather old-school name – Grand Vitara. With its upcoming Grand Vitara SUV, Maruti Suzuki hopes to gain a foothold in a segment dominated by the Hyundai Creta. The new flagship SUV from India’s largest carmaker is expected to go on sale during the festive period.
