Months after the Haryana State government had sanctioned the 800-acre site for a vehicle manufacturing plant, Maruti has finally announced the allotment process has been successfully completed. The land, which will be housing a 2,50,000-unit vehicle manufacturing plant, is located in the Industrial Model Township (IMT) Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Haryana. Maruti had been in continuous talks with the Haryana government and now hopes to set up the fully functioning plant by 2025.
Maruti Suzuki’s car plant in Kharkhoda will aim to achieve full production capacity of 1 million cars per annum in 2028.

The automotive giant already has a couple of plants in Haryana and contributes massively to the state’s overall automotive manufacturing output. The Manesar plant churns out around 8,00,000 cars yearly, and the one in Gurgaon has a 7,00,000 capacity. The new Kharkoda facility will help expand this, and Maruti has suggested an initial Rs. 11,000 crore investment in commissioning it.
Even though Maruti saw declining MoM sales in the first quarter, Maruti’s yearly sales numbers have been on a steady rise. Maruti reported a 3% YoY growth domestically and a 148% YoY growth in exports. With this new plant coming up, it is clear that Maruti wants to increase these numbers manifold in the future.
