India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki shipped out a total of 170,071 vehicles in March 2023. Domestic sales were down in both Year-over-Year (Y-o-Y) & Month-over-Month (M-o-M) metrics, dropping by 0.82 and 9.97 per cent respectively.
Maruti’s March numbers, while in the red, contributed to a record sales year for the nation’s largest automaker. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,966,164 vehicles in the financial year 2022-23.
Maruti Suzuki’s March Domestic sales numbers accounted for 132,263 units of the 170,071 units sold by the carmaker last month. Maruti Suzuki also sold a total of 4,024 LCVs (Super Carry) and shipped out 3,165 cars to other OEMs. March exports stood at 30,119 units.
Maruti’s domestic sales numbers declined compared to March 2022. The nation’s largest carmaker sold 1,098 units (0.82%) less last month compared to the 133,861 units sold in March 2022.
Compared to the second month of the year, Maruti Suzuki’s March numbers were even deeper in the red. M-o-M sales declined by 14,704 units (9.97%) compared to February 2023, when Maruti Suzuki sold 147,467 units in the domestic markets.
The 2022/23 financial year was one where Maruti Suzuki set new records. Maruti Suzuki sold a record 1,966,164 units in the financial year 2022-23, which shows just how well the nation’s largest carmaker has bounced back from the double hit of the pandemic and the chip shortage.
Maruti Suzuki’s Year-over-Year sales numbers rose by 313,511 units compared to the 1,652,653 units sold in the previous financial year of 2021-22.

Maruti Suzuki has shown that it has bounced back from the ravages of the pandemic and the chip shortage as it posted record sales numbers for the financial year that ended on the 31st of March.
A peek into the future of Maruti Suzuki was provided at February’s Auto Expo when the carmaker showed off two new SUVs – Fronx and the 5-door Jimny – along with an all-electric concept SUV due in 2025.
With the nation shifting towards SUVs, Maruti Suzuki looks well set to enjoy another fruitful financial year over the next 12 months which will hopefully help it hit that elusive 2 million units milestone.
