The S-Presso is one of SA's cheapest cars and is a popular choice among first-time car buyers or those who have had to cut their big-car budgets to something more manageable. Thinking about buying an S-Presso? You'll be more certain after this article.
In this article:
Is the Suzuki S-Presso a good car?
It’s a good car if your expectations are not too big.
Who is the S-Presso a good car for?
The S-Presso is a good car for young, old, and even small families.
Is the S-Presso a good first car?
Given its price tag, the S-Presso is an excellent first car, but it’s not without its faults. India’s S-Presso model, which scored low marks in the safety department, has only one airbag, whereas our S-Pressos have more equipment to keep our local drivers safer. All models in the new S-Presso range feature two airbags as standard and are fitted with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with emergency brake-force distribution (EBD).
All S-Presso models also feature reverse parking sensors as standard, while GL+ and S-Edition models will further complement this system with an in-built reverse camera.
“By using our modern passive safety technology in the design of the S-Presso, we have proven that affordable vehicles do not have to compromise on family safety,” says Suzuki SA. “It also means that our active safety features, which include two airbags and ABS with EBD, will offer the best possible protection within the TECT safety cocoon.”
Should you be involved in a crash, it’s ultimately the car’s structural integrity that dictates how well the occupants are, however.
The S-Presso is very light on fuel which is always good news for motorists of all ages. Read Is the Suzuki S-Presso good for new drivers?
Is the Suzuki S-Presso a good family car?
Small families who need a little city runabout will find the S-Presso suited to the task of driving 1-2 passengers around town. The driver’s seat position is a little too high for my liking, but it is something one gets used to, eventually. Click on the link above to find out more about its family friendliness.
Is there a Hybrid Suzuki S-Presso?
No, and don’t expect one any time soon either – the S-Presso is a budget offering.
What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer’s opinion
But, once again, there is a caveat: the S-Presso doesn’t really enjoy high speeds when there’s a cross-wind involved. Due to its slab-sided design, narrow track width and light weight, it tends to wander about its lane through such winds, requiring constant steering corrections to maintain a steady course. At city speeds or in a gentler cruise, this doesn’t really matter, but going faster than the speed limit will definitely require quite a lot of extra concentration from the driver.
