For more than 50 years, the has been a phenomenon in both the off-roading community and among fans of little kei cars. However, if there’s one thing that is missing from its half-century life, it is being a star of its own manga.
It can’t drift as well along the mountains of Gunma like the AE86 Trueno from Initial D or even its spiritual successor, the in MF Ghost but that doesn’t stop a publisher from setting up a crowdfunding page to turn the Jimny’s story into a manga series.
The project is headed by Yutaka Nikaido, the chairman of the Japan Jimny Club, and will be produced by Trend Pro. Some of the artists that will be behind the manga include Keitaro Inyama, Keisuke Sawaguchi, Ichiro Inoue, Katsumi Yamaguchi, and Seifu.
According to the crowdfunding page (which is in Japanese), the intention of this manga project is mainly to show the charms of the Jimny to fans both present and future. The manga will contain stories from various Jimny owners around Japan and perhaps even the rest of the world.
The crowdfunding begins from 17-June to 15-August 2022 and the project targets JPY 7 million (~RM 230k). Each supporter will receive various gifts in return, depending on the amount donated, including keychains, T-shirts, and personalised artwork.
Supporters who send the highest amount (JPY 1.3 million or around RM 42k) will stand a chance to have up to 20 pages of their Jimny story published in the manga.
If everything falls into plan and the project manages to be successfully funded, the Jimny manga could be completed by March 2023. So, if you’re a lifelong fan of the Jimny and have some spare change, why not contribute to having your Suzy story immortalised in a Japanese comic book?
