The Baleno two-door may never become a reality but how we wish it did
If you were born before the era of the nineties ended, you might have faded memories of the two-door Maruti Suzuki Zen Carbon & Steel Editions. These special edition models of the Zen were essentially the export models, which arrived in India as limited-run models. However, despite the immediate success of the two-door Zen, Maruti Suzuki never introduced a two-door hatchback again in India.
Here, in a YouTube Shorts video uploaded by the channel of ‘Royal Rider’, we can see what the two-door version of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Baleno will look like. It is purely a digital rendering made by the artist and not an official sketch by Maruti Suzuki.
Two-doors too good?
This is a digitally rendered image of the new Baleno
Here, we can see a digital rendering of the two-door Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which might make many car enthusiasts feel amazed.
The front profile of the two-door Baleno is the same as the all-new version’s front look, with the new sleeker front fascia with a sharper-looking grille and headlamps with LED projectors and daytime running LEDs. However, the front bumper looks different with angular housings for the fog lamps, looking similar to those in the Ertiga MPV.
It only gets two doors
The side profile of this two-door Maruti Suzuki Baleno rendering shows the real essence of the hatchback. In this rendering, the Baleno sits closer to the ground with a lowered stance and gets a two-door design instead of the production car’s four-door design.
The overall window frame design looks similar to the currently available four-door Baleno. While the door-mounted rearview mirrors remain unchanged, the hatchback sits on bigger multi-spoke machined alloy wheels, which get low profile tyres wrapped over them.
Why don’t you read more about it and watch more pictures?
Like the front profile, the rear profile of this two-door Baleno looks different due to the redesigned bumper. The design of the sharper LED tail lamps and roof-mounted spoiler are carried forward from the current production-spec model.
Can a two-door Maruti Suzuki Baleno be successful?
But will it become a reality?
While the limited two-door Zen Carbon & Steel sold out quickly, Maruti Suzuki never dared to make a two-door hatchback again due to the unsuitability of such cars for the Indian car markets. The two-door layout makes access to the rear seats of a car quite uneasier, which becomes even more difficult in a hatchback. So, even if Maruti Suzuki wishes to make a two-door Baleno a possibility, it might not happen due to a limited number of people preferring this body style.
Since the Baleno RS got discontinued in 2020, Maruti Suzuki does not have a performance-oriented compact car to take on the likes of new-generation sporty hatchbacks like Hyundai i20 N Line and Volkswagen Polo 1.0-litre TSI. The Baleno RS also had a performance-oriented 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine but found limited takers in India.
What Would We Like To See Under The Hood?
This is what it looks like in the new avatar
The two-door Maruti Suzuki Baleno shown here in the video is just a digital rendering. While this rendering is far from reality, it shows if the two-door Baleno will look good or not, if the possibility of a two-door Baleno comes out to be true.
In that case, the performance version can get the same 1.0-lite three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which claimed to produce 102 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque and come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, Maruti Suzuki will avoid making such a bold move of making a two-door hatchback again in India.
