Maruti Suzuki has already launched the new Celerio hatchback in India and the company is now gearing up to launch the updated Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the country. However, in the background, it looks like the Indo-Japanese automotive manufacturer is developing the 2022 iteration of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR.
Apart from that, the 2022 iteration of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR has been spotted testing multiple times in the country and the spy shots of the upcoming WagonR has revealed many design details of the upcoming hatchback.
However, unlike the Maruti Suzuki WagonR based Toyota hatchback that had been spied a few months back, the design of the test vehicle that has been spotted now looks far more conventional and looks evolutionary to the current-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR.
Starting with the front-end and the test mules come with a split headlamp design that is in tune with the latest automobile trend.
However, the 2022 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is a facelifted version of the current generation of Maruti Suzuki WagonR which is based on the HEARTECT platform. This means the new WagonR will not be aligned with the Japanese WagonR that comes under the ‘Kei’ car classification.
Speaking About the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, it is one of India’s most successful nameplates in the country and the Indo-Japanese car manufacturer started the sales of WagonR in 1999 and has spawned three different generations till now for the Indian market.
The second-generation Maruti-Suzuki WagonR was introduced back in 2010 and continued in production till 2019. During this time Maruti Suzuki maintained the sales momentum by introducing new updates at regular intervals.
Unlike the second-generation WagonR, the third-generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR was a substantial upgrade as it was no longer based on the Kei WagonR sold in Japan and was completely new and developed on Suzuki’s proprietary HEARTECT platform.
This direction allowed Maruti Suzuki to significantly improve the interior space and strength of the chassis without adding additional weight to the WagonR. In fact, the WagonR based on the HEARTECT platform was lighter than its predecessor.
Since the 2022 iteration of the WagonR will be a facelift rather than an all-new model, it is safe to expect a similar set of engine options as the outgoing model.
This means the updated Maruti Suzuki WagonR will come with two choices of engines. The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine produces 66bhp and 90Nm of torque, whereas the more powerful 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine pumps out 81bhp and 113Nm of torque.
However, the new Maruti Suzuki WagonR will sport new features over the outgoing model to attract urban buyers.
