Range Rover will update its Velar model range in South Africa in the second half of 2022 by trimming down the available offerings to 13 models – compared to the current 18.
Additionally, the company will reintroduce the Velar Edition specification which was previously sold in 2020.
“Based on the R-Dynamic SE, the special edition is again available and now includes the full Velar paint palette with a black contrast roof complemented by Black Pack exterior detailing and 20-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels,” said Range Rover.
“A sliding panoramic roof and privacy glass complete the enhancements.”
Alongside the introduction of the Velar Edition, the entire range will be updated with a reverse camera, while the HSE specifications and up will get adaptive cruise control with steering assist as standard.
Engines
A total of five engine options are going to be offered in the new Range Rover Velar, come the second half of 2022.
These comprise one turbo-petrol badged as the P250, a mild-hybrid called the P340, a plug-in hybrid called P400e, and two turbo-diesels in the form of the D200 and D300.
The respective outputs for these powertrains are as follows:
- D200 – 147kW/430Nm
- D300 – 221kW/650Nm
- P250 – 184kW/365Nm
- P340 – 250kW/480Nm
- P400e – 297kW/640Nm
The P340 utilises a 48-volt, mild-hybrid setup for reduced fuel consumption and to assist with low-end acceleration, resulting in a brisk 0-100km/h time of 6.3 seconds for the models fitted with this unit.
Those with the more powerful P400e motor sprint to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds, thanks to a plug-in hybrid system incorporating a 17.1kWh battery and 105kW electric motor.
Not only is this the fastest configuration available, it’s also the most fuel-efficient, boasting claimed combined consumption figures of as low as 2.2l/100km.
The battery then allows for an all-electric driving range up to 53km and can charge from 0-80% in 30 minutes on a 100kW DC fast charger. On a 7kW homebox, the same level of charge is reached in 1 hour and 40 minutes.
