Range Rover Limo commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei has come up for sale
Are you after a somewhat odd but undeniably charismatic hauler? Look no further, as a classic Range Rover limousine is now searching for a new home. Head’s up: it has quite the resume associated with it.
Originally commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei as a gift for his younger brother, Prince Jefri, titan of the road was then used to ferry Mike Tyson to Hampden Park, Glasgow in June 2000 for his highly-anticipated heavyweight bout against Lou Savarese.
It was built by Townley Cross Country Vehicles, which has conducted the same elongation process for several hundred other examples too. Beginning life as a 1994 Range Rover Vogue LSE, a nine-month conversion saw the body stretched by 40 inches before an extra pair of Range Rover doors were used to plug what surely would’ve been the world’s largest panel gaps.
The roof was then raised by a further eight inches and underlined by a laminated sunroof with dark-tinted windows. A single-piece opening tailgate was also added before an elegant coat of Rolls-Royce Mason Black was applied to cap the exterior changes.
As expected, the interior has seen the sort of redecoration that’s, quite literally, fit for royalty. Highlights include a glass panel all-electric central reservation and two remote-controlled eight-inch TV screens with a VHS recorder – bye-bye Netflix.
The interior was then trimmed in black-piped Oxblood Connolly hide, Wilton carpeting and Burr Walnut trim. In layman’s terms, it basically translates into a lot of money, which is why the entire conversion is claimed to have racked up a £135,000 bill for everyone’s favourite Sultan.
That’s roughly what a Ferrari 360 Modena with an exhausted options list would’ve cost in the UK when released in 1999, or what breathing in Central London does currently.
Further specifications remain under wraps, but we do know this particular car bears the 4.3-litre V8 and has covered just under 17,000 miles (est. 27,000km) over its many years of service.
Current estimates place it in the £30,000 to £40,000 bracket ahead of its sale with Iconic Auctioneers, so can it fetch a higher price than Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 2004 Range Rover?
