In terms of presence, there is arguably no greater than a Luxury SUV. Within this segment, the current Range Rover Sport will hold the crown until next year.
Between our choices of this, the BMW X5 and Jeep Grand Cherokee, which would you take?
Criteria
Like the luxury car segment, these vehicles reign supreme in terms of comfort, quality and performance. Also like the saloon section of these awards, there’s no ceiling on what these vehicles might cost.
Winner: Range Rover Sport
Image: Land Rover
The third generation of the vehicle that all but defines the modern Land Rover brand’s mantra of combining the off-road ability of products like the Defender with the splendour of the flagship Range Rover. Built on an all-new platform, the Range Rover Sport exudes a superbly re ned and quiet on-road driving experience with onboard equipment and comfort levels that mimic those introduced with the current Range Rover, such as a 13,1-inch portrait-style infotainment display. Fitted as standard with air suspension and the company’s newest Terrain Response all-wheel-drive systems, while there are German rivals in this segment that offer superior dynamic poise, few can match this proudly British contender when it comes to its all-round ability, no matter the terrain.
Runner-up: BMW X5

A previous winner of this segment, the BMW X5 pips the larger X7 to a runner-up spot here. That’s because its more compact dimensions than its gargantuan sibling’s are better suited to our market’s driving conditions.
Runner-up: Jeep Grand Cherokee

Available as a 5- or 7-seater, the Jeep Grand Cherokee provides a refreshing counterpoint to the established favourites in this segment. Well-appointed, majestically comfortable and staying true to its roots; we’d opt for the larger of the two options.
