The Range Rover Velar is now available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which means all Range Rover models have an electrified version. Other updates to the Velar range include a line-up of six-cylinder mild hybrid petrol and diesel engines, and the addition of the latest Pivi Pro infotainment system.
The Velar PHEV, called the P400e, features a 2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 105kW electric motor, which combined produce 398bhp and 640Nm torque and mean it can cover off the 0-62mph sprint in 5.4 seconds. Its 17.1Wh battery can be charged to 80 percent in 30 minutes using a fast DC charge point, or one hour and forty minutes using a standard 7kW wall box. Range Rover claims the P400e offers a fuel economy of up to 130.2mpg and produces just 49g/km CO2. In terms of pure-electric range, it can cover up to 33 miles on battery alone.
The rest of the Velar range now features a line-up of the latest Ingenium six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, which come with 48v mild hybrid technology and a belt integrated starter generator, which recuperates power under deceleration. The P400 petrol engine offers 398bhp and 550Nm torque, while the D300 diesel engine packs 296bhp and 650Nm torque. Their 0-62mph times are 5.2 seconds and 6.1 seconds respectively. There’s also the addition of the D200 diesel engine which features the same 48v motor and offers 201bhp and up to 44.9mpg.
The Velar also now comes with the latest version of the Pivi Pro infotainment system, which enables over-the-air updates via an embedded modem. The cabin has also gained noise cancelling technology which deadens the road noise heard inside the car by four decibels.
Nick Rogers, Executive Director, Product Engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The Range Rover Velar’s name and bloodline dates back to the code name of the original Range Rover prototypes. It has been fifty years since the introduction of the pioneering Range Rover in 1970, and now every family member is electrified with our awesome plug-in hybrid technology. Electrified powertrains and cleaner mild hybrid diesel engines mean the Velar is an even more efficient and sustainable option for our customers.
“Jaguar Land Rover’s new Electrical Vehicle Architecture – EVA 2.0 – supports the new Pivi and Pivi Pro infotainment, as well as Software-Over-The-Air (SOTA), and a whole suite of advanced driver assistance systems, cameras and clean-air technology, making the Range Rover Velar cleaner, safer and smarter than ever before and one of the most technologically advanced luxury SUVs in the world.”
