Range Rover Evoque (2019 – present) | Expert Rating [hide]
Summary
The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is a medium-sized SUV, built here in the UK at Land Rover’s Halewood plant. The second-generation model was launched in early 2019, following on from the successful original model that had been on sale since 2011.
Unlike the original version, the current Evoque is only available in a five-door body style. Both the petrol and diesel options are mild hybrids while a plug-in hybrid joined the range in mid 2020, an overall update following in 2021 with new infotainment systems. We are still awaiting a predicted full-electric model, however, and the convertible of the first generation is yet to be repeated.
The Range Rover Evoque has received consistently good reviews from the UK media, with particular praise for its comfort and safety assist technology. “It features an array of new technology and is one of the most luxurious small SUVs,” says Carbuyer.
The main criticisms of the new model have mainly been directed at its evolutionary styling and rather cramped rear seating – Business Car warns that the boot space is not as commodious as quoted and “You’ll probably find the boot less accommodating than a BMW X1’s or Volvo XC40’s.”
The plug-in impresses with its smoothness, Autocar commenting; “even though it weighs the better part of 2.2 tonnes, the car doesn’t generally drive like it.”
The Evoque’s overall Expert Rating score has been dragged down by what Which? describes as “Land Rover’s dire reliability record”. What Car? concurs, with a 2021 reliability survey placing the Evoque 14th in its list of the most unreliable new cars on sale.
As of November 2021, the Range Rover Evoque has an Expert Rating of 75% based on 25 reviews.

Model reviewed: P300e SScore: 9 / 10“The ride is firm-ish, but not jarring, even on the 20in wheels of our test car, and driving the Evoque plug-in hybrid is a serene experience. Hopefully, Land Rover can get the 41-mile EV range certified soon, as it would make the Evoque a compelling choice in the five-seat premium SUV sector.”

Score: 8 / 10“The 2019 Evoque has answered most of the old one’s criticisms which means it’s job done – the weaknesses are few and far between. The good news for Evoque buyers is that the 2019 car is more than good enough to move on the game and beat its rivals. We just wish they’d been a little more adventurous with the way it looks.”

“For a 4X4 that, in reality, will see most of its action zipping around in town and city, on school runs, family outings and shopping and social trips, it certainly coped with some nerve-tingling tests off-road as well as on. “

Model reviewed: Range overview“The second-generation Range Rover Evoque does a good job of lending a high-quality feel to a medium-size SUV, as well as offering genuine off-road ability in all-wheel-drive form.
