But could the monster EV preview an even hotter version of the upcoming MG4 XPOWER hyper hatch?
MG Motor has released first images and key details of the ‘EX4’ prototype performance model it will reveal at next week’s 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Said by its creators to be inspired by the MG Metro 6R4 rally car of the 1980s, the MG EX4 is powered by the same 320kW/600Nm dual-motor battery-electric drivetrain as the 2023 MG4 XPOWER hyper hatch, which is destined for our shores later this year, and should therefore also be able to spring to 100km/h in about 3.8 seconds.
The shadowy teaser images allude to a reborn Group B monster more than capable of backing up its insane styling with sports car-slaying performance.
Look beyond the enormous front and rear wings and you’ll spot an MG4 body fitted with some less-than-subtle wheel-arch extensions, retro-inspired aero wheels and a lairy two-tone paint job seemingly comprising the new ‘Racing Green’ finish with acid yellow highlights.
“Designed by MG’s team in London, who played a key role in creating the new MG Cyberster, the EX4 will feature a distinctive livery designed especially for Goodwood and celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Metro 6R4,” MG Motor said.
So far there’s been no indication whether the EX4 will enter production, but the public prototype does at least suggest an even hotter version of the MG4 is being considered or at least possible.
The outlandish prototype will be on display in the First Glance paddock at Goodwood as of July 13.
