Fresh rumours suggest flagship Italian supercar to come with electrified version of MC20 twin-turbo V6
Fresh details surrounding the incoming Alfa Romeo supercar has surfaced ahead of its August 30 debut, suggesting it will be a reclothed Maserati MC20 with an even more powerful 600kW electrified twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6.
According to Italian publication Quattroruote, the new supercar will also be named the Alfa Romeo 33, borrowing its name from the seminal Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale rather than the unloved 1980s Alfa hatchback.
Likely to share the MC20’s full carbon-fibre monocoque underpinnings, the flagship Alfa supercar will add at least one electric motor to the Maserati-developed Nettuno twin-turbo V6.
Alfa Romeo has already hinted that the entire production run of the 33 supercar has been sold out, but Quattroruote suggests that only a “few dozen” will be produced, each selling for more than $1 million.
As far as styling goes, expect the new Alfa Romeo 33 to pay homage to the original, borrowing its dramatic curves and low-slung look.
More will be released in the build-up to the August 30 reveal, with Alfa Romeo teasing a picture of what’s thought to be the supercar’s shield-like grille on a countdown video on its YouTube channel.
