Land Rover’s evergreen Range Rover Sport has been updated for 2021, with a new straight-six Ingenium diesel being added to the range. It’s a mild hybrid that joins the existing straight-six petrol models and 2.0-litre PHEV. We have all you need to know about the second-largest Rangie including the latest engines and and special models powered by its box-fresh straight-six Ingenium.
To mark the arrival of these new straight-six diesels, the Range Rover Sport also gets a number of new special editions – the HSE Silver, HSE Dynamic Black and SVR Carbon Edition. In addition the HST model is newly offered with the D350 diesel powertrain.
What’s this about a new engine?
The straight-six Ingenium-flavour Sport comes with three new diesel mild hybrids, the D250, D300 and D350 (although the latter two only will be offered in the UK). The petrol-powered models encompass the existing 2.0-litre P300, 390bhp P400, and 395bhp plug-in hybrid P400 and the V8-powered P525 and P575. Confused? You won’t be.
Out goes old V6 diesel and in comes an all-new straight-six engine to replace it. It’s all part of Jaguar Land Rover’s modular Ingenium engine family, which is expanding in scope to replace the costly old Ford-sourced V6s, which JLR have been so dependent on in recent years.
The 3.0-litre D350 unit uses a single twin-scroll turbo and continuously variable valve lift to maximise power and efficiency where it can. But that’s not all, it also has 48v mild hybrid tech, an electronic supercharger and is RDE2 certified. Power outputs of these new mild hybrid Range Rover Sports range between 246 and 345bhp (D250 and D350). The new D350 diesel’s 0-60mph time is 6.5 seconds, and it produces a CO2 output of 237g/km.

What about those new special editions?
The new HSE Dynamic Black is based on the HSE Dynamic and you get a Black pack with 21-inch wheels, privacy glass, and an all-black leather interior. There’s also a panoramic roof and Meridian sound system. Topping the range is a new SVR Carbon Edition, which as you’d expect is dripping with carbonfibre detailing, including the bonnet centre section. Subtle it ain’t.
Other new features for 2021 include an updated infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across, and in-built 4G wifi with up to eight connections. Spotify is now included, so you don’t need go via your smartphone. Finally, there’s a new air purification system, which Land Rover says helps with driver alertness and passenger comfort.
Range Rover Sport: prices and release date
The Range Rover Sport is priced from £65,295 in the UK, is available to order now with deliveries later in 2020.
