Suzuki is taking a different path when it comes to updating their Ertiga. The 7-seater small MPV recently got a mid-cycle refresh in one of Suzuki’s largest global markets, India, and as a result gets a hybrid powertrain and a brand-new gearbox.
The biggest update for 2022 is found in its K-Series engine. The K15C engine now features Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid system (at least for automatic transmission-equipped variants) and for that ups the fuel economy to 20.3 km/L (the manual transmission variant’s pegged at 20.51 km/L). The mild-hybrid system also slightly bumps up the power and torque figures to 103 horsepower (from 100 horsepower) and 136 Nm of torque (from 130 Nm). It also has idle start-stop functionality built in as well.
Accompanying the new electrified powertrain is the segment’s first 6-speed automatic with steering column-mounted paddle shifters. And unlike other Suzuki gearboxes, this one uses a traditional torque converter and not AGS (Auto Gear Shift) or a dual clutch system.
Along with the revised powertrain, the 2022 Ertiga gets a slight exterior and interior refresh. Outside, it gets a new front grille dubbed the Dynamic Chrome Winged Grille, a new backdoor garnish with a chrome insert, and new 15-inch two-tone machine-alloyed wheels. Inside, it gets a new infotainment system, reclinable seats for both the second and third rows, and added safety via 4 SRS airbags (up from two), ABS with EBD, and stability control with hill hold assist.
Should Suzuki Philippines consider electrifying the Ertiga to complete in the small MPV segment?
