2020 Range Rover Evoque Launched In Malaysia; Two Variants Including A More Powerful R-Dynamic

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque is in Malaysia. Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia held an online launch earlier and revealed two variants of the new luxury compact SUV i.e. Evoque and Evoque R-Dynamic. The retail prices are RM426,828 and RM475,398 respectively (prices are inclusive of 50% sales tax waiver, excluding registration, insurance and road tax).

The new Evoque stays with an evolution of the recognisable coupe-like silhouette of the original. With an updated design, the new Evoque wears new slim LED headlights and taillights as well as flush door handles.

Physically, the wheelbase has been stretched by 21 mm to increase overall cabin space, with notable improvements in the rear leg and knee room, as well as a larger glove box and centre console. The luggage space is also 10% larger (591 litres) and much wider, accomodating a folded pram or golf bag. The cargo space can grow to 1,383 litres when the 40:20:40 split second row seats are folded.

Further, the 2020 Evoque features Land Rover’s new Ingenium 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine. The twin scroll turbocharged petrol engine supplies a fast response to throttle demand and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The regular Evoque gets a power output of 200 PS and 320 Nm of torque @ 1,300 – 4,500 rpm, while the Evoque R-Dynamic has a higher output of 249 PS and 365 Nm @ 1,300 – 4,500 rpm.

Performance-wise, the Evoque takes 8.5 seconds for a 0 – 100 km/h sprint and tops out at 216 km/h, while the R-Dynamic variant is one second faster (7.5 sec) and carries a top speed of 230 km/h.

The new Evoque also comes standard with All-Wheel Drive with Driveline Disconnect technology. This system allows the driver to fully disengage drive to the rear wheels when cruising to reduce frictional losses. It will seamlessly re-engage in a fraction of a second when conditions dictate a need for additional traction. For more adverse conditions, the Terrain Response 2 system, which is also standard, will engage to automatically adjust the vehicle’s driving character to match surface conditions. The Evoque also has the best-in-class wading depth of 600 mm, which is great for some of our urban roads. Incidentally, this is also the first Land Rover model to feature Smart Settings, a system which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to learn the driver’s preference. The system applies the driver’s preference to automate comfort and driver-specific media settings throughout the drive. The new Evoque “recognises” the driver from their key fob and smartphone with the use of artificial intelligence and will enable specific seat and steering column positions upon approach. Up to eight driver profiles can be remembered by one vehicle. After a few journeys, the Evoque remembers the driver’s preferred temperature settings, media and commonly dialled numbers, depending on the time or day of the week. The front seats, in perforated grain leather, have 14-way adjustment with memory. For the Evoque’s occupants, the Land Rover InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment system is central to the vehicle’s interior digital experience. The system combines two 10″ high-definition touchscreens and a 12.3″ driver display behind the steering wheel. The result is a sophisticated, ‘hidden until lit’ interior equipped with state-of-the-art digital interface.

“The Evoque is now smarter than ever. The software that sits behind our infotainment system has been refined to provide a more intuitive customer experience. On top of that, we’ve added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration,” said Nick Rogers, the Executive Director, Product Engineering of Jaguar Land Rover. Apple CarPlay connects you to your smartphone while the 4G WiFi hotspot connects you to the internet.

Additionally, the 380 Watt Meridian Sound System has 11 speakers and a subwoofer to offer great definition, crystal clear highs and full deep bass.

On the safety end, Lane Keep Assist has been added to help drivers stay in their lane with its steering correction feature. Driver Condition Monitor technology is another added safety feature that is based on the driver’s steering inputs. Jerky, non-linear movements typical of a fatigued driver will automatically trigger an audible and visual warning in the instrument cluster. Other safety aids include Clear Exit Monitor, Park Assist, 360-degree Parking Aid, Rear Traffic Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter.

Extras For Evoque R-Dynamic

The R-Dynamic variant features more exterior enhancements including burnished copper accents on the front and rear bumpers as well as front fender inserts. Other key features include the segment’s first ‘ClearSight Rear View Mirror’ that transforms the mirror into a high-definition video screen when activated. If rear visibility is compromised by passengers or bulky items, the driver can flip a switch on the underside of the mirror to activate a camera feed from the top of the vehicle to display the back end of the vehicle. The screen provides a 50-degree field of vision and superior visibility in low light. Also exclusive to the R-Dynamic is the world’s first ‘ClearSight Ground View’ technology. This allows the driver to virtually see through the hood and under the front end of the vehicle by projecting a 180-degree view of the ground onto the vehicle’s upper touchscreen. This is especially useful when navigating through tight parking spaces, high city curbs or when tackling rough terrains.

Other additions include 360-degree surround camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, High-speed Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, and perforated two-tone grained leather upholstery.
