The Maruti is releasing the 5-door Jimny in India, as opposed to overseas markets where the 3-door variant is available. The Mahindra Thar, on the other hand, is the best-selling lifestyle off-roader in the country. However, a 5-door variant is set to be released. The Maruti Jimny measures 3,985mm in length, 1,645mm in width, and 1,720mm in height, with a 2,590mm wheelbase. It has a boot capacity of 208 litres, which increases to 332 litres when the rear seats are folded. It has a gasoline tank size of 40 liters. In comparison, the Mahindra Thar has the same length, 175mm greater width, and stands 135mm taller. (The hard top is 1,844mm tall) and has a gasoline tank capacity of 57 litres.

The Jimny has a lengthened wheelbase, straight pillars, an upright muscular bonnet, a honeycomb mesh five-slot grille, circular LED headlights with washer, fog lamps placed in the front bumper, five twin-spoke alloy wheels, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The Jimny now has 15-inch alloy wheels.

A multi-slat grille, circular headlights, fender-mounted turn indicators, dual-tone bumpers, and fog lamps incorporated in the bumper are the Thar’s external highlights. It has rectangular-shaped tail lights at the back, a spare wheel placed in the tailgate, and 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels (the AX model has 16-inch alloy wheels). Customers can select a soft-top or hard-top roof.

Powering the Maruti Jimny gets a K15B 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 105PS and 134.2Nm of torque. This motor comes paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed torque-convertor automatic transmission. The brand has also equipped the five-door Jimny with its AllGrip Pro four-wheel-drive system.

The new Thar comes with the option of one petrol and one diesel engine. The gasoline engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that makes 150PS and 300Nm of torque. This torque rating goes up by 20Nm in the automatic version. On the other hand, the oil burner gets a 2.2-litre diesel mHawk that produces 130PS and 300Nm of torque paired with a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter. Both engines come mated to a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Jimny has a nine-inch touchscreen entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rectangular black dashboard, circular AC vents, steering-mounted controls, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, near-flat reclinable front seats, and baggage hook screw holes on the inside. It still has an analogue dial, a boxy interior, and just four seats despite being a four-door. The Jimny comes equipped with side and curtain airbags, dual airbags, limited brake slip differential, ABS with EBD, hill hold control, hill descent control, rearview camera, side-impact door beam, and ISOFIX.

The Thar has a tough dashboard with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a comprehensive digital driver infotainment system with an analogue speedometer and tachometer. It also has driver seat height and lumbar support, roof-mounted speakers, steering-mounted controls, and an adventure gauge on the TFT screen that displays all of the critical information while off-roading.
