- Hennessey to offer overloading kit on its Ram TRX-based Mammoth
- The truck can produce up to 1,000 horsepower
- Prices start at US$19,950 on top of the Mammoth build
Gearheads will know Hennessey as the hypercar manufacturer based out of Texas that also turns wrenches to create bonkers high-performance variants of vehicles which already inhabit the extreme. After turning its attention to the mighty Ram TRX and cranking the thing to over 1,000 horsepower, it’s decided to add an overlanding package and create one very speedy way to go camping.
Overlanding, for those unfamiliar, is a type of vehicle-based self-reliant camping in which one’s rig contains all the gear they need for a few nights in the back country, but recognizes that simply getting there is half the fun. This explains why overlanders will load up their machines with rooftop tents and onboard supplies while often also improving the vehicle’s off-road chops.

The tailored Overland Edition of this Hennessey Mammoth includes a slew of equipment to help owners adventure off the grid for a few days. A modular storage system utilizes a robust TRX bed rack as its foundation, one which is topped off by a hard-shell rooftop tent which takes mere minutes to set up. Your author can say from firsthand experience that this style of tent is much better than other variants, which can be fussy to deploy. Score one for the Mammoth.
Also taking advantage of the TRX’s payload capacity are a retractable 55-inch awning to provide shade and shelter; auxiliary fuel containers; and a 30-litre pressurized water reservoir, which helps increase range and utility. Just don’t confuse the fuel and water and you’ll be fine. Other accessories include a 28-inch splitting axe, shovel, and LED perimeter illumination. Grab handles and a retractable ladder improve accessibility to the tent and equipment.
Under the hood is Hennessey’s take on the TRX V8 engine, a mill which is good for over 700 horsepower right out of the package. The tuners from Texas breathe on the thing and work their magic, cranking the wick to 1,000 horsepower and 969 lb-ft of hairy-chested torque. This output is thanks to Hennessey’s high-flow 2.65L supercharger, larger fuel injectors, and a slick high-flow induction system. Toss in some performance-boosting calibration mods and you have a truck which is likely to be the first one to the campsite, assuming its 82.1-inch width doesn’t prevent it from squeezing between those two trees over there.
The overlanding package can be added to any Mammoth build for 19,950 of the finest American greenbacks. No word on if a version of this package will be offered on the half-million-dollar Mammoth 6×6, though we bet Hennessey would be more than glad to accommodate a punter whose bank account is large enough to write a sufficiently outsized cheque.
