NEW YORK: Some will know Hennessy as the maker of a potent cognac, but it’s also the moniker of the US tuning shop behind the V8 Mammoth pick-up which is not for the faint-hearted.
The macho 1000 TRX behemoth has been enhanced by Hennessy with over-landing equipment for adventure-oriented owners who want to spend a few days tackling rugged terrain.
The makers say their post-apocalypse TRX offers 1,012 horsepower of four-wheel-drive, go-anywhere performance combined with “everything needed to be comfortable in the remote backwoods”.
The colossal pick-up starts out life as a standard Dodge Ram 1500 TRX before Hennessey beefs it up.
Asked once how this vehicle came into being, John Hennessey, founder of the tuner, once said enigmatically: “Because we can”.
The tailored Overland Edition utilizes a robust TRX bed rack as its foundation, topped by a hard-shell rooftop tent that takes only minutes to set up.
A generous retractable awning provides shade and shelter, while auxiliary fuel tanks and a pressurized water reservoir are also mounted on the rack to increase range and utility.
The Mammoth 1000 TRX features a 6.2-litre V8 engine enhanced with Hennessey’s high-flow 2.65L supercharger.
