If you don’t want – or can’t get your hands on – a new Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06, the speed freaks at Hennessey in Texas may have an answer for you. Called the H700, it layers a supercharger on top of a stock Stingray’s LT2 6.2L V8 to create a 708-horsepower mid-engine monster.
In a burst of all-American fireworks and bald eagles, the engineering team fits a high-flow centrifugal supercharger, an air-induction system with an air-to-water intercooler, and an optional enhanced cat-back exhaust to the factory-installed small-block V8. Rounded out with a reflash of its engine software, this makes for a total of 708 ponies and 638 lb-ft of torque.
Those numbers represent a 44-per-cent increase in horsepower, and a 37-per-cent increase in twist over performance offered when this engine rolled out of the factory in Kentucky.

All of which introduces something of a conundrum. In terms of power output, the supercharged H700 outshines a factory Z06, whose naturally aspirated 5.5L flat-plane V8 makes 670 horses and 460 lb-ft. A few more ponies is one thing, but nearly 200 more torques will surely be the key difference in feel between a H700 and Z06.
And, before you ask, Hennessey does warrant its work for three years or 36,000 miles, so it’s not like owners are going totally commando by installing this kit.
Price? If you just want the supercharger and warranty, write a cheque for US$34,950. But if you’re looking for all the features mentioned above – intercooler, exhaust, and engine tune – plus the graphics package and lightweight wheels shown here, budget an extra 15 grand on top of that number.
At present, there is a $40,800 delta between the starting prices of a base Stingray and a Z06 in America. That exhaust is said to remove active valve functionality compared to a stock C8, by the way, meaning yer neighbours will just absolutely love your early morning starts.
Hennessey says the upgrade fits all 2020 to 2022 Chevrolet C8 Corvette coupes.
