The owner of a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette had their week go from pleasant to disastrous after their car sunk seven feet underwater off the coast of Texas.
According to police, this C8 Corvette “drifted off” the road and into the water last week while driving through the marshlands of Aransas Pass, a coastal town in Texas northeast of Corpus Christi. Photos published by the police to Facebook show the car being recovered using inflatable airbags to bring it to the surface, where it was towed to land via boat.
The Aransas Pass Police say there was no environmental hazard discovered during the recovery, meaning the Corvette didn’t spill any oil, gas, or coolant during its time under water. Good to know if you happen to be shopping for a C8 you also plan to use as a submersible.

It’s still unclear exactly how this Corvette ended up in the water, so we reached out to the police to see if there’s any more info or photos. We’ve also asked whether the driver, who has not been identified, is facing any charges. We’ll be sure to update this article when we hear back.
