BAIC unveils its latest addition to the model lineup. At a glance, it’s a step up in terms of quality, design and performance compared to its stablemates. Introducing, the BAIC Bejing X55 II.

The Bejing X55 II is BAIC’s latest SUV offering available in three trim levels, namely; Dynamic (R394 900), Elite (R424 900), and Premium (R454 900). Joining the likes of the BAIC X25 SUV, D20, B40 and so on, the X55 is a ferry from the otherwise simplistic styling found throughout the firm’s local model lineup. The X55 II is available in white, yellow, red, grey and silver. At present there are no listings for this stunning SUV so its unclear when customers can start putting in their orders.
X55 II is not only a car made by engineers, but also a product that fully understands user’s needs.” — Xu Ming, chief designer of the exterior design of BAIC Modeling Center and chief designer of X55 II

The X55 is powered by BAIC’s 1,5-litre turbocharged four-pot said to have an output of 130 kW and 305 Nm. Mated to this scrappy power plant is a 7-speed DCT aiding its acceleration from 0 to 100km/h, which is said to be somewhere around 7,8 seconds. The X55 uses the generation 2.0 Beijing Modular Functional Architecture (BMFA) chassis platform.

Visually, it’s breathtaking, especially compared to the firm’s previous local X55 offering. The new iteration adopts softer body lines and a more modern design language. A honeycomb-like front grille dubbed the “Diamond Star’ grille punctuates the sleek and sharp headlights. Its flank is dominated by black accents running along the edges of the wheel arches and doors, with the 5-spoke alloy heels serving as a wonderful break from what is a smooth and flowing side panel.

As sultry as the front is, the rear is a sumptuous conclusion to BAIC’s prettiest family member. A wrap-around light bar brandished with the BEIJING name smack bang in the centre curtails an otherwise well-put-together rear end.
The interior echoes the elevated design language of the X55 II. Sports seats, leather interior elements, a large panoramic and ergonomic cockpit starring a digital driver display and an infotainment screen are welcomed innovations in the BAIC lineup that hopefully make their way into the firm’s future products.
