Local market newcomer, BAIC, has invested heavily in our local automotive industry but only has a few models on sale. We find out why and which one of their models is the cheapest.
Ride your BAIC
BAIC is a relatively new kid on the block locally. They don’t have a large dealer footprint and as of 2022 only have 2 models on sale. They arrived with the D20 hatch and sedan city cars in mid-2016 along with a massive vehicle production facility in Port Elizabeth. Most of the vehicles produced locally were destined for foreign shores. It would not be long before a new model was launched, the X25 crossover hit dealers locally and would be built locally for our local market.
BAIC teased a 4×4 offload machine for a few years at the Festival of Motoring, dubbed the BJ40 it would eventually make landfall in 2021 and caused quite a stir with its Jeep-like appearance and performance off-road. This year’s Festival of Motoring saw a new model unveiled that has yet to have an arrival date announced. The B80 is a carbon copy of the infamous G Wagon Mercedes and it will be interesting to see how this new model will fare.

Verdict
As you can see the D20 range is the cheapest BAIC you can buy but has been discontinued meaning you can only find them on the second-hand market. The next in line for the honor of cheapest is the X25 Crossover with the B40 and the coming B80 machine being the most expensive BAIC models you can opt for.
