Block's first test of his Pikes Peak Porsche doesn't exactly go smoothly, with the Head Hoonigan in Charge sailing off track during testing.
Back in May, Ken Block revealed his newest race car: A fully custom Porsche built to compete at the Pikes Peak International hillclimb. Named the Hoonipigasus, it’s a 2200-pound carbon-fiber missile with all-wheel drive and a 1400-hp twin-turbo flat-six. It looks and sounds ridiculous on the move.
The Hoonigan YouTube channel published a video on Tuesday showing off the Hoonipigasus’s first test session, held at Pueblo Motorsports Park, located just south of Colorado Springs. The team picked this track thanks to its higher elevation, which makes it a good simulation of the types of conditions Block will face on the mountain.
Throughout the first two days of testing, BBi Autosports—the shop that built the Hoonipigasus—focused on making sure the engine was broken in and the suspension was set up correctly. Block had to drive the car on virtually no boost throughout day one before upgrading to more power on day two. Even when not at full power, that twin-turbo flat-six sounds nasty.
Block told the cameras he was struggling with snap oversteer throughout the session, putting two wheels off coming out of a right-hander before quickly recovering. He later lost the rear end and sailed fully off the track, using the sandy runoff to coast back onto the asphalt. As Block says in the video, it’s better to suss out these suspension issues now. When he runs on Pikes Peak, there will be no runoff to protect him.
