2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS: What is it?
Think AMG, and you think V8s, V12s and lots of noise. But the future is electric, so it will be extremely interesting to see how Mercedes (and every other manufacturer for that matter) does silent performance.
Here we can see the first spy shots of Mercedes' flagship EV, the EQS, sporting some choice upgrades that suggest it's an AMG test mule, out doing its thing on The Ring.
We can see that this EQS' body is slightly wider than the normal car, it sits slightly lower to the Tarmac and it clearly has uprated AMG brakes and lightweight alloy wheels.
2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS: What is it powered by?
The wheel and suspension upgrades will be needed to keep the EQS' huge bulk in check through bends, but it'll also need quite a lot of power to move it more quickly than the already-quick standard car.
There are been rumours of 750hp being deployed to do that, which will reach the road via two potentially upgraded motors, one on each axle.
The battery size is unlikely to change, so should remain around 108kWh in size.
2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS: When will it be on sale?
There is no word on when an AMG EQS will go on sale, or even what it will be called. The '43', '53' and '63' monikers could be used on EVs as they have been on combustion-engine AMGs.
However, we think this AMG EQS is likely to be revealed before the end of 2021 and could therefore be on sale in early 2022.
2022 Mercedes-AMG EQS: How much will it cost
There's no word on how much an AMG EQS will cost just yet, but given this is Merc's flagship EV in its range-topping form, you can expect it to be very expensive.
The standard EQS is likely to start from around £70,000, so this AMG version will be well in excess of £100,000 by the time it goes on sale, probably close to £150,000.
