When Mercedes-AMG unveiled its G 63 Edition 55 recently as part of celebrating the brand’s 55 years of operations, it mentioned that more birthday surprises will follow in the coming months.

Another surprise from the Affalterbac-based company is the AMG GT Track Series model as the most powerful track car to ever be made available for AMG buyers. The new Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series is exclusively available on tracks and club sports events – now that makes it quite special.

Limited to only 55 units globally, the AMG GT Track Series underlines its high exclusivity by means of numerous unique technical and visual features such as a carbon fibre bonnet, wings, sills, back door and rear apron for enhanced driving dynamics.

There are integrated louvres of the carbon wing on the front axle for better downforce as well as sills with elements of black visible carbon that transitions into vertical blades both at the front and the back. For extra cooling of the rear brakes, there are cooling air ducts. The rear of the Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series features a rear apron with a double diffuser and lateral wheel arch outlets.

The front end is equipped with an AMG-specific radiator grille, a bespoke high-downforce front splitter while the rear is fitted with a modified, mechanically-adjustable racing rear wing based on the aero element of the GT Black Series.

A direct motorsport derivative comes in the form of an exclusive bonnet with large air outlets that guide hot air from the engine bay while increasing the overall downforce and improving the cooling of the engine.

The new Mercedes-AMG Track Series rides on exclusive high-sheen milled and forged 18” wheels that match the usual rim size for GT race cars. According to Mercedes-AMG, All the usual competition tyre types can be used. The wheels house steel brakes that measure 390 mm at the front and 355 mm at the back. Furthermore, a brake beam has been installed for adjusting the brake balance.

The AMG GT Track Series is covered in the Manufaktur Hightech Silver Magno hue complemented by a semi-gloss finish and has red- and anthracite-coloured trim. There is an integrated AMG emblem in the upper area of the front apron to further emphasise the exclusivity of the GT model.

Like in the GT3 and the GT4, the motorsport-infused AMG GT Series is equipped with racing specific traction control plus a motorsport ABS that can be adjusted in 12 levels, from maximum assist to off.

A roll cage of high-tensile steel is bolted to the aluminium space frame as well as an extrication hatch that is placed in the roof. The driver safety cell has been designed to meet the latest FIA standards, thanks to a five-point safety harness and customisable ergonomic seat foaming. There is a powerful motorsport fire extinguisher system and driver safety nets.

Tipping the scales at only 1,400 kg, the new Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series features extensive use of carbon material and does away with padding materials, interior fairing or electric windows.

Powering the AMG GT Track Series is a tweaked version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine borrowed from the Black Series. The engine comes with different fuel injectors good for 540 kW and 850 Nm of torque, that’s 3 kW and 50 Nm more than the road-legal GT Black Series.

Compared to the Black Series with a 7-speed DCT, the track-only Track Series employs a sequential Hewland HLS 6-speed racing gearbox with adjustable settings for the rear differential.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series is slated to reach customers in the second quarter of the year and prices start at €369,000 or R5,907,677. Buyers can purchase an optional seat and a helmet ventilation system, a drinking system as well as a passenger cell.
