A couple of special editions are offering unique finishes and upgrades.
Mercedes-AMG has already begun building all-electric cars, but the company won't let its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 go out without a bang. The 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance will be the company's first production hybrid, and it's more powerful than any previous AMG model. With a V8 under the hood producing 639 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, plus an electric motor contributing 204 hp and 236 lb-ft, total output is 843 hp and a staggering 1,034 lb-ft. Mercedes says the E Performance hits 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds with a 196-mph top speed.
We don't expect the GT 63 S E Performance to arrive in the US until late 2022, but the car goes on sale in Europe starting in April at €196,897 (roughly $223,000). Mercedes previously showed the car wearing a bold red paint job and now we get to see it in an even more outrageous color.
Pictured above is the AMG Special Edition finished in an exclusive AMG Green Hell Magno (matte) paint. This color was previously available on the AMG GT R. In addition to the Nurburgring-inspired paint job, this specialty model receives 21-inch AMG forged wheels, two AMG Night Packages, and available AMG Aerodynamics/AMG Exterior Carbon Packages. Inside, the GT 63 S E Performance is available with AMG Performance seats finished in Nappa leather. The special edition model gets a unique badge in the interior and illuminated door sill panels that match the exterior paint. Opting for this package adds €21,777 (around $24,600) to the price.
If green isn't your taste, Mercedes will also offer something luxurious simply called the Special Edition in a “dark gemstone” shade called Rubellite Red (pictured above). Among other things, this features silver-painted, high-sheen 21-inch forged AMG wheels and the Exterior Package in high-gloss chrome. Alternatively, the Manufacktur label “represents the highest degree of individuality and luxury with selected materials that are predominantly processed by hand.” This variant is available in various exclusive finishes, including Classic Grey Uni, Olive Metallic, or Copper Orange Magno. A two-tone leather steering wheel, deep-pile floormats, and decal sets for the side skirts are also offered.
All of these details are specific to the European market, so we'll have to wait until later in the year for US-specific information. Jupiter Red (pictured below) is sure to be a hit, but these exclusive options will surely do well domestically too.
