The gorgeous one-off creation looks better than ever cruising the Italian pave.
The YouTubers at Nostalgear have the enviable bragging right of having filmed the sensually-styled Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato on the streets of Milan, and the results of their work are included in a short film below.
The coachbuilt coupe was unveiled late last year as a two-door version of the rather excellent Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan. Zagato could have simply restyled the Italian sports sedan as it has, and most of us would have been content, but something from the famed design house usually tickles more senses than just sight.
This one is no different, with its 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing a lively 540 horsepower.
The Zagato coupe achieves 37 hp more than a regular Giulia Quadrifoglio by borrowing the uprated engine from the low-volume Giulia GTAm, a lightweight track special. In that car, 0-62 mph takes just 3.6 seconds. In this one, performance specs have not been revealed as they are of little importance, but we suspect that lopping off two doors and recreating the exterior using exotic materials has contributed to quicker acceleration.
The owner clearly views all-out speed as a secondary concern because they commissioned this car with a six-speed manual. Further bolstering the wealthy German owner's enthusiast credentials are reports that they own every “significant” Alfa Romeo ever made, as well as a number of Zagato creations.
Opportunities to see this lovely creation on the move will likely not come around very often, and the setting only makes the occasion more special. What a lucky owner.
For the rest of us, Alfa Romeo is not looking to the past for much inspiration and will instead follow the industry trend of electrifying its product portfolio. The next Giulia is expected to be a thousand-horsepower EV, but it's not all bad news for those who want something traditional. Although out of reach for any but the wealthiest buyers, Alfa Romeo is expected to introduce a new supercar soon. Hopefully, this will influence future mass-market products. If not, at least we have the stunning Giulia SWB Zagato to look back on.
