The Alfa Romeo Tonale is the latest in the brand metamorphosis for the Italian manufacturer, but which trim depreciates the fastest?
Alfa Romeo was quite delighted to present the Tonale as it signified a transition for the brand while still remaining true to Alfa Romeo characteristics. My colleague Sean Nurse had the Tonale on test, and you can read his thoughts here.
The Tonale is intended for a customer that’s young, dynamic and metropolitan. The type of customer that seeks a distinctive design and fun driving dynamics but also something technologically advanced. The Tonale sports a hybrid powertrain with a 1.5 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and P2 electric motor. The engine puts out 118 kW and 240 Nm whilst the electric motor is 48-volt, 15 kW, and 55 Nm. This is all sent through the 7-speed Alfa Romeo TCT dual-clutch transmission. The Tonale looks like an excellent Italian proposition, but which trim depreciates the fastest? Although fairly new, as the Tonale launched in November 2022, we can at least forecast which trim would likely depreciate the fastest.
1. Alfa Romeo Tonale 1.5T Hybrid Ti
The Ti name, originating from Turismo Internazionale, is identified as the most exclusive, comfortable and elegant of Alfa Romeo models.
New Price: R739 900 (2022)
Average Used Price: R736 133 (2023)
Average Mileage: 252 km
Value Retained: 99.5%
2. Alfa Romeo Tonale 1.5T Hybrid Speciale
This is the middle child in the Tonale range. You get all the same spec as the Ti, but with the Speciale, you gain 20-inch wheels, rear privacy glass and lastly, partial suede/leather seats.
New Price: R799 900 (2022)
Average Used Price: R679 900 (2023)
Average Mileage: 8 700 km
Value Retained: 85%
3. Alfa Romeo Tonale 1.5T Hybrid Veloce
The performance-orientated with various performance styling elements such as a body kit with black painted accents, column-mounted aluminium shift paddles, Alfa Dual Stage Valve Suspension and 19-inch wheels.
New Price: R819 900 (2022)
Average Used Price: R894 900 (2023)
Average Mileage: 0 km
Value Retained: 109%
Verdict
From our observations, the Speciale lost the most value but also has the most average mileage compared to the other trims on offer. The Ti only lost 0.5% of its value, and the Veloce, interestingly, gained value, but then again, that trim is basically brand new with next to no mileage. Remember, though, the Tonale is still relatively new, so more time needs to pass to get a better representation of which trim depreciates the fastest. As mentioned above, this is merely a forecast, so things may change as time goes along. Here are the Tonale trims compared head to head. For now, though, if you’re looking at a Tonale, you can search AutoTrader for the latest used and new offerings.
