In 2022, the Mercedes C-Class range will be finished. The new AMG C 43 and AMG C 63 will be unveiled with the star’s autograph. However, one of the precise specifications of these two sports saloons has been exposed thanks to a leak.
Mercedes’ aspirations to finish the range of the new C-Class before the end of the year were thwarted due to a scarcity of microchips. The sportiest models, the AMG C 43 and AMG C 63, are still to be released. The first should have been announced last summer and put on sale by the end of 2021, whereas the most extreme should have been presented and initial units accessible since spring.
Despite their best efforts, the extra time has allowed the sports brand to guarantee that the new mechanical system that both models are equipped with works flawlessly.
The C 43 is equipped with a 48-volt electric turbo, while the C 63 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder plug-in hybrid engine. A few weeks after the presentations, a leak from the brand’s German configurator revealed one of the two models’ unique features: the rear spoiler, which was hidden in all test prototypes.
The AMG C43 and C 63 will have their own personalities.
A tiny spoiler on the side of the boot lid has been spotted in spy photographs of the two sports versions, but never like the one revealed in the leak. Because the spoiler was continuous from end to end in both models, without the lowered middle part, there are two possibilities: one, the brand was in charge of concealing it so that it seems to be something it is not in fact, or there is an optional special.
A ‘Performance’ spoiler, since it not only has this detail, but the ends also spread and become more noticeable, boosting wing area and downforce closer to the wheels’ ends.
An unintentional leak has led Mercedes-Benz to disable the online configurator in order to remove the equipment found in the saloon’s “AMG Line Exterior” trim.
The reality is that the distinctive spoiler that will differentiate the regular and sportier variants of the car is not entirely new to the star brand. This distinguishing feature was previously seen on the AMG C 63 Coupé, so it’s logical to assume that it’ll be a feature of the next generation of high-performance sedans, and that it’ll be available in body color or visible carbon fiber to add cache. In a few weeks, your uncertainties will go.
The civilian C-Class was just introduced, and the top variants have already begun production. Following the capture of the C43, the series’ coronation has now been captured as well.
The athletic traits of the big AMG C-Class are visible on the outside. The Panamerica grill and a more aggressive apron with huge air intakes can be found at the front. The fenders are provided in a significantly larger size.
They work with new light alloy wheels and wide sports tires. Behind it, a sports braking system is mounted. The rear has the trademark virtually square double-flow tailpipes that protrude from the right and left modified aprons. Mercedes added a diffuser and a spoiler lip to the trunk lid in the center.
On the back of the station wagon, the AMG acronym and the identification C63 are also visible. This can be observed in the sedan’s styling, which includes a standard exhaust system, a redesigned apron, and broad rear fenders. A somewhat sweeping roof spoiler shields the back window.
What matters with the vehicle, though, is what happens behind the hood. Tobias Moers, then-CEO of Mercedes-Benz, stated the C63 would sport a hybrid engine as early as 2018. The C63 (for the driving report) faced a similar fate after the C43 ditched its three-liter V6 in favor of a four-cylinder.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 is available with a hybrid package.
An in-line four-cylinder with two liters of displacement should function in the new model instead of the eight-cylinder with four liters of displacement and 476 HP or 510 HP in the S version. The M139 two-liter engine is the same as the one found in the C43 with the ISG 48-volt starter generator and the new AMG E-Turbo.
Then there’s the “EQ Power Plus” package, which creates a plug-in hybrid by separating the drive train’s electric motor from the back axle. The electric motor has a power output of 150 kW, while the total drive system has a power output of at least 653 hp. Presumably, the performance is the same as the S version; the base C63 should easily surpass 500 horsepower.
The traction on all four wheels is taken care of by a new-access automatic. The top model, however, requires more power and, as a result of the electrical components, including the lithium-ion battery, the weight increases dramatically, pushing the model over the two-tonne mark – even though the four-cylinder is roughly 60 kilograms lighter than the eight-cylinder. After all, the C63 has a range of roughly 60 kilometers on pure electricity.
AMG also offers the huge display in the center console and the digital cockpit for the interior. The inside is completed with sports seats, a sports steering wheel, different AMG insignia and logos, aluminum and leather finishes, as well as the new C-infotainment Class’s and comfort amenities.
AMG’s 63 C-Class without a V8? Why not? The four-cylinder engine with a capacity of two liters, combined with an electric motor on the rear axle, transforms the middle class into a capable all-wheel-drive AMG with 550 horsepower! It makes no difference that the entire contraption weighs more than two tons. After all, the Stuttgart trumps the BMW M3 from Munich, which only produces 480 or 510 horsepower.
