Two-berth roof tent developed specially for reborn Defender is just one of 170 ways to customise your Landie
A new roof-top tent option has been revealed for the for the new-generation Land Rover Defender 110.
Developed in collaboration with Italian camping expert, Autohome, the new roof tent is designed to mount directly to the roof rails of the long-wheelbase Defender 110 four-door, which lands Down Under in August.
Priced in Europe from around €3100 ($A5050), the lofty new accommodation isn’t cheap, but included in that price is a double mattress, three pillows, a LED interior light, removable rear canopy, mosquito nets on each door and a neat aluminium ladder.
Made using insulated fibreglass, the tent’s composite outer shell is claimed to keep occupants warm in cold weather and cool in hot conditions, and even muffles the sound of heavy rain.
It’s even easy to use. Release a clip at the rear of the roof box and a pair of gas struts raise the tent, which when open measures 2.3 metres long, 1.3 metres tall and 1.5 metres wide.
But beware if you and your other half are on the bigger side because Land Rover says the new pop-up tent and roof rails are only rated to a maximum load of 300kg.
And buyers will need to order the new high-rise accommodation alongside the Defender’s Adventure Pack, which includes the roof rack and roof rails, plus the distinctive side mounted panniers.
The new roof tent is just one of 170 individual accessories that will be produced for the new Land Rover Defender 110 , which will be followed on sale here by the short-wheelbase Defender 90 two-door around October.
Pricing for the cheapest Defender 110 D200 kicks off from $69,990, stretching to $137,100 for the range-topping P400 X.
