Mercedes is working on the W214 E-Class generation. It will debut as the W214, a scaled-down S-Class, by the end of 2022. The current Mercedes E-Class was introduced in 2016, has subsequently been updated, and will be replaced by the end of 2022. The new model generation with the internal designation W214 is then thrust into the forefront by Mercedes. It will go on sale in early 2023, following the presentation at the end of 2022.
Only four and six cylinders are available.
The new E-Class features a slightly longer wheelbase (about 2.96 meters), a little wider track width, and, optionally, two-axle air suspension and rear-wheel steering to help it reclaim its competitive position. On the driving side, it is decreased.
The E-Class will no longer be available with an eight-cylinder engine. Instead, gasoline and diesel engines of four and six cylinders. The M 254 and OM 654 are four-cylinder engines with a 48-volt electrical system and ISG. The gasoline engine has a maximum power of 272 horsepower and 400 Nm, while the diesel engine has a maximum power of 265 hp and 550 Nm.
More power is provided by the 2.9-liter in-line six-cylinder engines from the M 256 and OM 656 engine families. The gasoline engine can produce up to 435 horsepower, while the diesel engine can produce up to 330 horsepower.
AMG enthusiasts will have to make friends with the M 139 four-cylinder engines in versions 53 and 63, which will produce over 600 horsepower from the outset as a performance plug-in hybrid. Overall, the hybrid models’ battery capacity should rise, allowing for fully electric ranges of up to 100 kilometers. The larger battery should be able to fit thanks to a redesigned back axle design.
The new E-Class will, of course, be available as a T-model in addition to the sedan. A new all-terrain version is also in the works. The convertible model, which will most likely be dubbed CLE, is the consequence of combining the C- and E-class convertibles. The CLE should also include a four-door coupe.
The S-equipment Class’s and design are used here.
The new E-Class W214 borrows a lot from the new S-Class in terms of safety, with the extent of the current helpers being mostly modified. The E-Class should be able to drive independently to Level 3 in the medium term.
The driver and front passenger both use a big touchscreen to operate the vehicle. However, better voice control is on the way. The fundamental information is provided to the E-Class driver through virtual screens behind the steering wheel, presumably in 3D on request. In addition, the MBUX infotainment system will be on board in its most recent growth stage.
Of course, the design of the new E-Class was inspired by the S-Class. The headlights are slimmer than previously, with an LED daytime eyeliner as the only feature. The bonnet star, like the C-Class, should be eliminated from the E-Class.
The lights, which are adapted to the front, are likewise much shorter towards the back. Exhaust tailpipe trims that are visible have clearly fallen out of favor. The exhaust system of the new E-Class is hidden below the apron. The ironing door handles have been phased out in favor with recessed knobs. The beading in the sides that used to go through the handles is also no longer visible.
For the 2023 model year, Mercedes will introduce the new W214 E-Class. It is more closely based on the new S-Class in terms of design and equipment. Only four- and six-cylinder engines are available in the engine program today. Only four-cylinder engines are available in AMG variants.
