In the midst of the product’s life cycle, Mercedes redesigned the GLE, dubbed V167 internally. The SUV will be available in 2022, followed by the SUV coupé a year later.
The makeover is minor, as can be seen in the photos obtained by our Erlkönig hunter. A redesigned grille with vertical double struts flanks new headlamp units with a revised inner structure. The daytime running lights on the GLE are based on the new E-Class.
The aprons are being renovated, as well as the space beneath the license plate. New lights have been installed in the stern, which are still disguised behind the camouflage. With this optical approach, the new GLE should look more lively overall.
On a few of the themes, we can also see the cockpit. A new steering wheel, similar to the S-Class or CLS, may be seen.
The cutting-edge interior with the vertical mega-screen in the center console should not exist in the facelift – the adaptation for the facelift is too hard. The driver stares at the two displays, each with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches. Mercedes has instead equipped the GLE with the most recent MBUX software for the infotainment system.
The classic motors remain on the driving side. On both the petrol and diesel sides, four-cylinder engines are the foundation. The plug-in hybrid versions GLE 350 e and 350 de, for example, have 211 and 194 horsepower, respectively. In the future, the four-cylinder diesel 300 d with 271 horsepower and 22 EQ boost hp will be offered.
The 400 d, a six-cylinder in-line engine with 330 horsepower, is the diesel engine’s pinnacle.
The R6 with EQ Boost is offered in two versions: the GLE 450 (367 hp) and the GLE 53 (435 hp). The twin-turbo V8 will thereafter be available on AMG models, with the AMG four-cylinder with belt starter generator and electronic exhaust gas turbocharger likely to be offered only in the following generation.
All of the engines are still connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Engines are expected to drop or rise in terms of consumption and potentially performance. Prices are also rising significantly, with the 300 d starting at roughly 74,000 euros at the moment.
Mercedes offers the GLE a “Mopf,” or facelift, as Mercedes lingo has it. The facelift in the midst of the product’s life, on the other hand, turns out to be small. On the headlights or lights, as well as the aprons, a little optical chichi. That needs to continue till the next generation begins.
Under the sheet metal, the well-known four- and six-cylinder in-line engines are also available as plug-in hybrids. In the cockpit, though, there is something new. The driver is given a second steering wheel and is permitted to utilize the newest MBUX in-car entertainment system.
