Gestures and natural language voice instructions have been imposed as a means of control. With the world debut of the new 5 Series in 2023, BMW’s renowned iDrive controller will be phased out, but the star’s brand has resurfaced. Starting with the Class A Facelift, the updated compact does away of the touchpad and the touch surface.
The Mercedes A-Class Facelift comes in a five-door and four-door sedan configuration. Both have been the first to go through the German brand’s upgrades department, which has been hidden on the exterior and inside. In only a few months, the small and the A-Class Sedan will get new features, with a presentation planned for this spring.
Inside and exterior, a slight upgrade with small changes that will modify the aesthetic but only enough to increase sales. However, advancements in the field of equipment will be more significant. As we previously said, owing to the semiconductor issue and the extensive -almost endless- list of equipment available, Mercedes has chosen to reorganize its most popular products, putting many of them into packages that would save consumers money.
Before BMW introduces the iDrive, Mercedes ditches the “touchpad” control.
But we also learnt that the star brand has chosen to remove a feature that has been present in Mercedes for a long time: the iconic touch surface located in the transmission tunnel, known as the “touchpad,” from which the various infotainment systems can be accessed. The complex touch displays that fill the center console and transmission tunnel, along with the sophisticated MBUX interface that offers rapid access to all operations, have already lost this control.
Furthermore, voice control, which currently enables more natural and complex language commands, as well as gesture control, have effectively eliminated the manual data entry method that formerly allowed diverse operations to be done. Zooming in on navigation maps, for example, is a function that may be controlled using a pinch-like finger action.
The all-new Mercedes Class A and Class A Sedan will be unveiled soon. The star’s brand is gearing up for a spring launch, with a commercial debut planned for early summer 2022. Given that the innovations do not necessitate large changes at the sheet metal stamping level, extremely clear and fair timeframes are required. The makeover of the CLA and CLA Shooting Brake will be added to the two primary compacts soon, and the GLA and GLB will also be refreshed.
Because the present W177 series has been on the market since 2018, there may be a mid-life makeover in 2022 – with the emphasis on tiny.
Behind the star, a new radar sensor has been installed.
Only the grill, which has a new design, is concealed in the front. The radar sensor in the location of the enormous Mercedes star, which is located in the center, is also new. Is that it? The prototype is currently in the development stage.
Prototypes with enhanced camouflage over the right standard body will be shown until the market introduction. We expect new aprons at the front and back, as well as new headlights and taillights in a new configuration, in addition to the new grille.
Mercedes is undoubtedly preparing a fresh arrangement for the inside equipment packages. Colors and patterns can also be changed. The front sensor on the new A-Class might possibly be enhanced in terms of driver assistance technologies.
Less consumption, more performance
The well-known engines have a performance plus and a consumption penalty behind the hood. The A-Class is now equipped with petrol engines ranging from 109 to 421 horsepower. The diesel engines have a power range of 116 to 190 hp, while the hybrid A 250e is available. With the redesign, it’s likely that costs will climb as well. The petrol A 180 d starts at 31,124.45 euros, while the diesel A 180 d starts at 27,970.95 euros.
Although the W177 series has been on the market since 2018, the model still appears to be quite fresh and current. Nonetheless, the compact and, by extension, its derivatives must be employed for a mid-life makeover.
