PETALING JAYA: The Mercedes-AMG A45 hot hatch is going to get a lot hotter in 2018 when the next generation is expected to arrive.
The AMG team will push the limits of engineering by boosting output an extra 25hp to about 400hp, which elevates the A45 to supercar territory. At such performance levels, and with revisions to the four-wheel drive system and the electric differential, the goal is to allow the car to achieve a 0-100kph sprint time in under 4s.
To boost the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to 400hp, it’s likely that a second turbo could help realise the target. In addition, the seven-speed auto gearbox will make way for a 9-speed auto transmission.
The potential for the Mercedes A-Class has never looked this exciting, and it should be interesting to see how everything comes together for the next A45.
As we await the new A45 for 2-plus years, we have to be content with the present one, which is still a force to be reckoned with. Read the CarSifu
