We're not sure if it's coming to the US though.
Mercedes-AMG is releasing a special edition of the G63 called the “Grand Edition” celebrating the model's history, which goes back to 2002. Limited to 1,000 units globally, its American availability is still to be determined.
The special model gets a dose of black and gold style to celebrate. The gold accents include the AMG logo and Mercedes star in Kalahari Gold Magno, which is also used for the front and rear bumper inlays, faux front skidplate, and the spare wheel cover ring and Mercedes star.
Another shade of gold, Tech Gold, is used for the 22-inch AMG forged wheels (with a black center-lock nut) and side graphics. The rest of the bodywork is finished in Manufaktur Night Black Magno.

On the inside, there's, you guessed it, more black and gold. Black door sill trims with the AMG logos are the first thing you see as you enter until you relax into the G Manufaktur black nappa leather with contrasting gold stitching and gold AMG logo plaques on the headrests. Black floormats with gold stitching continue the theme, while the overhead grab handles are finished in Nappa leather.
The passenger side grab handle also features trim in carbon with copper thread and the words “Grand Edition,” and the carbon-and-copper theme is carried through to other trim details elsewhere in the cabin. Finally, the AMG Performance microfiber steering wheel features a wheel clasp with a G 63 plaque.

The Mercedes-AMG G63 Grand Edition arrives right after the company announced the G500 Final Edition, a model that says auf wiedersehen to the G-Wagon's venerable V8 (in non-AMG models, clearly) with 1,500 units slated for worldwide production. All these models signal the beginning of the end of combustion for the model as its all-electric future inches closer. The good news is the G63 may have more time than expected, thanks to comments made in the Grand Edition's press release.
“The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is now also undoubtedly regarded as an automotive icon and demonstrates its unique position among performance off-road vehicles,” says Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “With the expressive and limited Grand Edition, we are celebrating the success story of the G 63, which is far from over.”
Whatever happens, this isn't the end, and the “Grand Edition” seems to be another stepping stone toward building half a million more Gs.
