Latest OTA software update will bring Alexa convenience and streamline user experience
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced it will add Amazon Alexa voice control to the standard equipment list for its Australian models – and it will be able to be retrofitted to existing MY21 vehicles via over-the-air updates.
Described by JLR as a “step-change in its connected services capability”, the move forms part of the brand’s ‘Reimagine’ strategy and will streamline the user experience for occupants via the latest Pivi Pro infotainment system.
Not every model is included, however, with the Jaguar F-TYPE, Range Rover Sport and MY21 Range Rover all excluded from the roll-out.
Just like the Alexa home system, JLR’s new voice control function will provide vehicle owners with a new level of convenience with navigation, media playback, phone calls, weather, news, schedules and even shopping lists all falling under the system’s umbrella.
JLR director of electrical and electronic engineering Alex Heslop said the integration of Alexa and the Pivi Pro infotainment system makes “the driving experience even more enjoyable”.
“The fact we can also offer this new feature to existing customers proves the value of our software-over-the-air-updates,” he said.

Alexa Automotive International boss Christian Mentz meanwhile said that “because Alexa is always getting smarter, new features and capabilities will be added over time and delivered” automatically.
“We’re excited to deliver that same delightful, convenient experience to Jaguar and Land Rover customers,” he said.
JLR owners will be notified on their vehicles’ touch-screen when software updates become available for download.
