GT Track Series limited to only 55 units
Just recently, Mercedes-Benz released the ‘Edition 55’ G63 SUV to celebrate the 55th anniversary of AMG. In addition, we were told to expect a few more special-edition surprises in the coming months according to the German carmaker. But as it turns out, we didn’t have to wait that long.
The Affalterbach-based company has already unveiled the Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series – a special track-only version of their GT sports car line. Finished in a semi-gloss Manufaktur hightech silver magno paint with red and anthracite accents, the GT Track Series slots above the hardcore street-legal GT Black Series, and features race track-proven qualities from the brand’s GT3 and GT4 race cars.
For starters, the Black Series’ 4.0-liter V8 Biturbo’s power output was further enhanced for the Track Series. It now produces 734 HP and 850 Nm of torque. It also gets a Hewland HLS 6-speed sequential racing gearbox to transmit all that power to an adjustable rear differential.
This makes the special-edition model the most powerful customer sports car ever developed by Mercedes-AMG, with the exception of course of the One hypercar.
Mercedes-AMG used a generous amount of carbon fiber in the Track Series’ bodywork to bring the weight down to 1400 kg. Part of that weight diet was also due to the removal of padding materials, interior fairing, and even the power window motor.
Since the car is meant to be enjoyed in track days and club sport events, they also fitted the car with a lot of track-spec components such as a high-tensile steel roll cage, a 120-liter motorsport safety tank, a mechanically-adjustable rear wing, four-way adjustable Bilstein dampers and a competition brake system with adjustable ABS.
Furthermore, the Track Series’ special steering wheel was developed along with sim racing experts at Cube Controls which provides a wide setup adjustment range and numerous control opportunities. A data-logging system comes as a standard feature to keep track of driver inputs for motorsport coaching purposes.
Like the previous 55th-anniversary model, the ‘Edition 55’ G63, the Mercedes-AMG GT Track Series is limited to 55 units only. Interested customers can avail of the car along with comprehensive track and technical support from Mercedes-AMG for EUR 369,000.
Future owners of the GT Track Series also get an exclusive membership for track days and club sport events of the brand. According to Mercedes-AMG, deliveries of the special-edition track car will start in the Q2 of 2022.
