The next-generation C63 AMG is expected to boast over 500 horsepower, despite dropping the V-8 for a hybridized four-cylinder.

Over a year after revealing both the latest C-Class and the details of its top-level performance variant, Mercedes and AMG have finally offered us a look at a faster take on their newest compact sedan. While it is unclear if this is the all-out C63 AMG or the milder AMG-branded model that will replace the outgoing C43 below it, this certainly looks like our first look at Afflaterbach’s take on the W206 C-Class.
Here’s to a new AMG: try not to blink when making eye contact.

The quick teaser shows only a cropped head-on shot of the car, revealing a more aggressive front fascia and the now-signature vertical grille that has become the standard of modern AMG products. The car’s headlights turn on and off, but the teaser offers little to no other indications of what to expect from the latest compact Mercedes performance offering.
Notably, the head-on angle of the car does not show the aggressively flared fenders that have long been a mainstay of AMG variants. This may be a choice to differentiate a milder C43 or C53-branded car from the more aggressive C63, indicating that this teaser is likely for the lower-end AMG variant. That differentiation is even more important now that both models are expected to use four-cylinder power.
When we do finally see the C63, don’t expect that decrease in cylinders to come with a decrease in performance. When Mercedes shared that car’s first details last year, it said the four-cylinder C63 should still reach some 500 horsepower with electric assistance.
