Two distinct variants of new-generation Mercedes-AMG GT caught testing as global reveal draws near
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT has been spotted testing in multiple variants at the Nurburgring in Germany as the new-generation sports car enters the final stages of development.
Due to be revealed in the second half of this year ahead of an expected Australian debut in 2024, Mercedes-AMG’s redesigned GT is seen here wearing less camouflage than we’ve seen previously, led by a devilishly handsome blue coupe with prominent fixed rear wing, likely the flagship GT 63 S.
It doesn’t appear to be the harder-core GT R, which has traditionally upped the ante with big aero, but the GT in the images still makes its presence felt with rhomboid exhausts, a louvered grille, an elaborate wheel design and black/carbon side trim.
Some of these elements are also found on the second GT caught by our spy photographer, although the red sports car looks to be a little more moderate with its retractable active rear wing, silver side trim and different wheel design.
Based on the same platform as the new 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL, the GT is expected to be crowned by an uprated version of the familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, producing more than the SL 63’s 430kW/800Nm in GT 63 form.
Previous intel suggests the GT range will also include four-cylinder and six-cylinder hybrid powertrains, with at least two tunes of the V8 (55 and 63).
All-wheel drive is expected to feature prevalently in the new portfolio, just as it does on the SL.
