Surely but not at all slowly, the electric AMG cars are hitting the road. As one of the first EQ products, the EQS got the AMG treatment first. But now, the tuning division is turning its attention to the electric S-Class’s showroom siblings. And while the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE isn’t as imposing as the EQS, it should be just as potent.
AMG pumps up the electric Mercedes E-Class with EQS-like performance

While it serves the purpose of an electric E-Class, the Mercedes EQE doesn’t ride on the same platform. Instead, it uses the EQS’s platform, making it a downsized version of the electric S-Class. Though considering the E-Class is spiritually a downsized S-Class, this is entirely in flavor.
Regardless, after juicing up the EQS, AMG is now turning its sights on the Mercedes EQE. And like its bigger sibling, the AMG EQE has more power and torque than the regular model, though it uses the same battery pack. However, while its peak power output doesn’t quite match the AMG EQS, the EQE is smaller and lighter. So, although its top speed is lower, the electric Mercedes E-Class should be quicker in a straight line. And though the V8-powered E63 S is likely lighter, the EQE is powerful and torquey enough to make up the difference.
At least, that’s the case with the US-spec 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE. Overseas, the automaker will offer a less-powerful version, the EQE 43, Car and Driver says. Technically, the US-market version is known as the EQE 53 internationally. But since we only get one trim, Mercedes dropped the ‘53’ here.
What else does the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE get apart from more power?

Speaking of names, there’s one more piece to the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE’s full title: 4Matic+. That’s the Mercedes term for sports-tuned all-wheel drive, which the AMG EQE has thanks to its dual motors. The regular EQE 350 only has one motor mounted on the rear axle, so it’s a RWD sedan.
That extra motor isn’t the only boost the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE receives, though. Firstly, its motors are AMG-specific, as is its upgraded cooling system. Secondly, its standard air suspension and adaptive dampers are stiffer than the regular versions. Also, the AMG EQE has staggered tire sizes, with wider rear tires that should improve cornering, Car and Driver notes. And while carbon-ceramic brakes are still optional, the AMG EQE has bigger brakes than the standard car. Plus, rear-wheel steering is standard.
Although the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE shares body panels with the regular EQE, the former has a rear spoiler and unique grille. And inside, it has an AMG steering wheel, sports seats, floor mats, door sills, and sport pedals. Mercedes’ Hyperscreen isn’t standard, but AMG-specific digital gauge cluster elements are. Also, besides power and torque, the Dynamic Plus Package adds some unique driving sounds.
Finally, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE offers multiple driving modes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race Start, and Individual. These modes adjust the steering, suspension, power output, and cooling settings. The Dynamic Plus Package modifies the Race Start mode, letting the driver go with or without launch control. But even without the package, the AMG EQE lets you tune the suspension independently of the driving mode. Also, you can turn the stability control completely off.

As of this writing, Mercedes hasn’t announced official AMG EQE pricing. AMG EQS pricing also hasn’t been officially announced, but the standard EQS starts at roughly $102,000. For comparison, a fully-loaded gas-powered Mercedes E-Class Sedan costs about $98,000.
However, we should know the pricing details soon, because the AMG EQE should arrive in the US in early 2023.
