The Alfa Romeo Tonale is a transition point for the Italian brand, but how reliable is it? We'll check that here.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is the model in the Italian brand’s stable that signifies a transition that looks forward into the future but still remains true to Alfa Romeo’s nature. My colleague Sean Nurse drove the Tonale, and you can read his thoughts here.
The Tonale is manufactured in Italy at the revamped Giambattista Vico plant Pomigliano d’Arco, which is quite the advanced production plant, with the Tonale having its own assembly line. Top-of-the-line technology in the form of interior conveniences and hybrid technology are found in the Tonale, further adding to the redefined consumer experience. Here’s everything you need to know about the Alfa Romeo Tonale. The Tonale sounds like quite a substantial vehicle, but how reliable is it?
Service Plan and Warranty
Needless to say, it’s crucial to service and maintain a car as it’s being used over its service life, regardless of how reliable it may be. Included within the purchase price of the Alfa Romeo Tonale is a 5-year/100 000km maintenance plan and a 5-year/100 000km warranty.
How reliable is the Alfa Romeo Tonale?
The Alfa Romeo is still a reasonably new product in the South African market. We looked at what is being said over the pond and discovered that there have been two vehicle recalls, according to Car-Recalls EU. The first recall was reported on 31/03/2023, stating that the lighting, hazard warning system, power steering and brake assist could fail due to faulty underfloor wiring. This was for vehicles made between 15 September 2022 – 13 February 2023. The second recall was regarding the pressure build-up valve of the 48-volt battery, which may be defective, which can lead to a loss of battery functionality and overheating if water gets in. This affects vehicles made between 11 November 2022 – 6 February 2023.
Since then, however, there haven’t been other reported issues with the Tonale. As mentioned before, the Tonale is fairly new, so some ownership time needs to pass to see if any issues can crop up. Recalls are not unique to the Tonale as they can and have happened to other vehicles. If you wish to buy a vehicle that is susceptible to recall, it’s worth checking with the OEM if the issues concerning that particular vehicle have been addressed.
