Refresh for big-selling hatchback includes new tech inside, plus a longer range for electric versions...
On sale: October 2023 | Price from: £20,000 (est)
One of the reasons why the Harry Potter, James Bond and Lord of the Rings franchises are so popular is because they appeal to many different age brackets. Similarly, there’s a version of the Vauxhall Corsa to suit a wide range of people, from teenagers to pensioners; that’s one of the reasons why it was the second best-selling car in the UK in 2022.
To further boost its appeal, this small hatchback has now been updated, with the most significant changes being made to the Corsa Electric. It’s now offered in two forms: an entry-level model with a 50kWh (total) battery and a 134bhp electric motor, and a range-topping version with a 51kWh (total) battery and a 154bhp electric motor. The former can officially travel for up to 222 miles from a full charge, while the latter can do 255 miles.
With the larger battery fitted, the Corsa Electric has a much more competitive range than before, offering a figure halfway between the official ranges of the SE and SE Long Range versions of the MG4.
As before, it will have a maximum charging rate of 100kW, meaning that a 10-80% charge should take around 30 minutes with a suitably powerful charging point.
Along with the electric models, a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will be offered in three outputs: 74bhp, 99bhp and 128bhp. A new mild hybrid version will join the line-up later on.
All versions of the Corsa will get an updated exterior design, which includes the addition of the firm’s new ‘Vizor’ front grille, a tweaked Vauxhall badge and ‘Corsa’ now being spelt out across the tailgate.
Inside, the Corsa gets a new infotainment system that has over-the-air update capabilities, meaning it can receive software updates remotely. On upper trims, a 10.0in touchscreen is standard, while lower trims get a 7.0in screen. All models get a 7.0in digital instrument cluster, and phone integration for Android and Apple devices is standard.
Prices for the new Corsa are expected to start from around £20,000 in petrol form and £30,000 for the Corsa Electric. That’s similar to what the Peugeot 208 (from £20,360) and e-208 (from £31,345) will cost you.
