Electric SUVs will likely escape the ordinance.
In France, particularly in its capital, Paris, the government is planning to punish SUV owners by imposing a higher parking fee because it thinks these vehicles “are absolutely useless” for the inner city. Parisian lawmakers have shown an aversion to SUVs for years now, and we don't blame them. Their hulking size is unwieldy and sometimes downright dangerous.
This report came from The Guardian and added that the ruling is expected to kick in at the start of 2024. But despite having just five months left before it might be activated, the parking ordinance is yet to specify the exact SUV details upon which it will be imposed.

We're talking about an SUV's size, weight, and engine. As a consolation, the law might spare families who need the spaciousness of their large, high-riding vehicles. Moreover, it is also expected that electric-powered SUV models will be exempted from the more expensive parking fees.
Pricing for the increased SUV parking fee is yet to be determined. But the report says it will likely see a progressive scheme. For example, the hulking Cadillac Escalade might be pricier to park in the City of Light than the smaller Honda CR-V.
To shed more light on this Paris parking law, theGreens Party, also known as The Europe Ecology Party, says that it will address the “inexorable growth” of vehicles in terms of size and weight in Paris.

According to Paris officials, the number of SUVs plying the roads within the French capital has increased by 60% in four years. This equals 15 percent of the 1.15 million total vehicles parked in the city every night. The parking ordinance, in turn, may help to curb this by encouraging car buyers to get smaller cars.
SUVs are mainly targeted because, as mentioned above, the Paris city government thinks people don't need SUVs to get around. “There are no dirt paths, no mountain roads,” said deputy mayor David Belliard.
We're not surprised to hear this about Paris. Remember, the city has one of the most prohibitive traffic laws in the world with its notorious 19 mph speed limit.
