Porsche has had to fiddle with its lineup because emissions have made the Turbo GT off-limits in some markets.
When Porsche revealed the 2024 Cayenne back in March, we were thrilled to see the return of the Turbo GT variant, which now produces 650 horsepower, but there were no details on the 680-hp Turbo S E-Hybrid variant.
That has now changed, and the German automaker has revealed that the range-topping V8 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) will be the most powerful Cayenne to date, with over 690 hp (700 PS). Torque will also rise beyond the 664 lb-ft offered by the old Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, a name that may or may not carry over, and the top speed will run to 186 mph instead of 183 mph. It's safe to assume that the 0-60 mph sprint will also improve.

The V8 engine will produce over 500 ponies on its own steam, with the balance to be made up by the electric component, which will be paired with an upgraded and larger battery with a capacity increase of more than 30% and the ability to charge faster than before. We assume that this technology will find its way to the Cayenne's MLB Evo platform sibling, the soon-to-be-hybridized Lamborghini Urus that will launch next year.
That takes care of the mechanical upgrades, but we still have a physical reveal to look forward to, which may happen in early September at the IAA Munich auto show, where compatriot automaker BMW will reveal a new vehicle of its own.

Inside, things will be much the same as in other Cayenne models, meaning more screen real estate, a new steering wheel, and a redesigned center console. After this generation, things will change even further. Porsche has confirmed that the next Cayenne will be electric, following a trend that other models like the 718 and Macan are getting ready to set. Both cars will become all-electric very soon, starting with the Macan EV next year and the 718 EV shortly thereafter.
But don't be sad – Porsche seems to know how to make electricity look sexy and fun. Just look at the Mission X or Mission R concepts for proof.
