Porsche has unveiled a new entry for the Cayenne, expanding the popular series with another plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model that is available in both SUV and SUV Coupé body styles.
Known as the S E-Hybrid, the new vehicle will take the mid-range position in the electrified line-up between the base E-Hybrid and the flagship Turbo E-Hybrid.
The S E-Hybrid can now be ordered on Porsche’s configurator, where the SUV and SUV Coupé are listed at R2,615,000 and R2,707,000, respectively, with a 5-year/100,000km Driveplan.
Deliveries are expected to begin from November 2023, said the automaker.
Performance
The S E-Hybrid makes use of a revised 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 260kW, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an electric motor with its own rating of 130kW.
The combination of these systems means the SUV is good for 382kW, and an incredible 750Nm of torque, which allows it to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in as little as 4.7 seconds.
Additionally, it means the Cayenne is capable of reaching a top speed of up to 263km/h.
On the electrical front, the S E is equipped with a 25.9kWh battery, which lends it an all-electric driving range of up to 90km.
This battery is fitted with a new on-board AC charger, which lets it achieve a 100% charge in less than two and a half hours when using a socket with a capacity of 11kW.
Further enhancing the SUV’s driving experience is the brand’s adaptive air suspension, which is included as standard and enhances either the comfort or sportiness of the vehicle thanks to a “2-chamber, 2-valve technology” that enables a wide spectrum of spring rates, according to the company.
Features
As far as its visuals are concerned, the new PHEV takes its cues from the Cayenne S, meaning it comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels and a twin-exhaust system with a brushed stainless steel finish.
The E-Hybrid also comes with the Exterior package (silver on the SUV and black on the coupé) which adds coloured accents to several components such as the door mirrors, front intakes, and side skirts.
All of these aesthetic elements can then complemented by a set of HD Matrix LED headlights, which can be had as an optional extra.
Other standard fittings include eight-way electronically adjustable front seats, a digital driver display and infotainment screen, leather upholstery, keyless entry and start, a “Sport Chrono” package that adds stainless steel pedals and an extra switch for selecting the driving modes, and a new air quality system for the climate control that filters out particles and hazardous substances.
