Matteo Gentile brings to the company a fresh mind with a widely varied background.
The bespoke automaker Touring Superleggera has just announced a new Head of Design in Matteo Gentile. The Italian designer has previously worked for companies like Seat, Bugatti, Ubisoft, and, most recently, Lotus, mainly focusing on exterior automotive design. Joining Superleggera, he brings a wealth of experience to the company that was originally founded in 1926 and has created some of the most beautiful bespoke models you can imagine.
With this new appointment, the company says it wants there to be a “heightened focus on creating aesthetically appealing and cutting-edge designs.” Most likely making the company more competitive against the likes of Pininfarina or Zagato, and we certainly think they picked the right man to do it because his designs are downright impressive.

Markus Tellenbach, CEO of Touring Superleggera, says, “I am pleased to have Matteo Gentile on board as he is an extraordinary designer talent. Under his leadership, the Touring-Design-Team will be creating outstanding design innovations reflecting the company's dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive design and continuing the legacy of excellence.”
If you're not totally familiar with Touring, it's a company that was founded in 1926 and made a name for itself with vehicles like the Maserati 3500GT, Aston Martin DB5, and Alfa Romeo Disco Volante. The company also patented lightweight superleggera construction methods and did well for itself for years until it closed its doors in 1966 amid changing automotive practices and decreasing demand. The naming rights were purchased in 2006 by a group of private investors who thought the company was ripe for a resurgence, and indeed they turned out to be right.

Since the brand's revival, it has released vehicles like the Ferrari F12-based Berlinetta Lusso and the Alfa Romeo 8C-based Disco Volante. Perhaps its most impressive vehicle, though, has been the Touring Sciadipersia. A vehicle with the bones and engine of a Maserati GranTurismo hiding underneath, the long GT and V8 sounds are complemented beautifully by downright gorgeous bodywork. Jay Leno certainly loved the design, which should make any manufacturer happy.
With Matteo Gentile at the helm, the company is poised to produce vehicles that are more breathtaking and edgy than before. His designs feel propelled by a blend of the old-school and futuristic, almost videogame-esque, which makes sense given his Ubisoft background. We're looking forward to seeing how they translate to a brand that's prided itself in sleek and classic packages for so many years.
